SOS - workshop

Good Sunday morning to you all, sorry I missed my post yesterday but I was in Aberdeenshire teaching at our Oldmeldrum store. I had two classes based on a line made in house for sale in our pop up shop last year. We love these box frames that we have made so many versions of these for gifts.

The original butterfly design was made by Kate Mellis and we adapted it for class.
The ladies loved this, well Doreen defiantly loved it the most!

We used new stamps with the ever popular butterfly and opaque white embossing powder on vellum. The rest I think you can guess.

And this weeks see's us all in a mad panics to get deliveries and samples made of our demonstration day in Elgin. The lovely Jenny Trueman is in the hot seat and crafty Kate Mellis is in the class room.

With new stock as our promotions we are expecting lots of boxes this week but if there is a hitch and delivery is delayed yet agian, I will be stressed to the hilt until the stock arrives. We even have a sweet deal on the big shot, good enough to beat the big guys!

I wonder how many real shops do you visit, workshops and clubs you attend.
Or are you a more likely to lock yourself away and play on your own.

How are the shops doing in your local area, so many are closing, I don't often hear good news.
Do you thinks it's the shopping channels , hobbycraft or just a general down turn in the hobby that is fuelling the slow market in independent shops?

After all, you the crafter are the reason shops are open. If we don't serve you well then we need to know how to do better. Let me know your thought, I do read all comments, I just don't publish them if I think the information is best kept to myself .
Have a great day.
Karen

Fairy Tale

Hello everyone :o)

I've used another of my previously un-inked Sugar Nellies for today's card, and she's so gorgeous I've no idea why I haven't coloured her before!

She's from the Simply Sassy range and her name is Fairy Tale... you can find her HERE at Funky Kits.  I was a bit scared of tackling her hair, but actually she was lots of fun to colour!

Thanks for popping in, hope you have a lovely day :o)

Believe-

Hello and good day to you, Sugar lovers!
how was your easter break, peaceful I hope .?
I am returning to a PC near you to share a cheery card featuring an adorable Diane Duda image... "Believe

I opted for some warm spring or indeed Easter papers.. and coloured her up to match. you know, you can pick her up for an unbelievable price at Funkykits too .... along with lots of other old favourites, and new ones too!
I decided on a simple layout, all matted onto kraft cardstock, with lots of distressing thrown in for good measure .Using a simple sentiment and dotting on a few small pearls, it really was a quick make.
I do hope I have given you a little inspiration to dig out your older stamps , and some them some love .
have a fabulously crafty day... and pop back tomorrow for a little more sweetness , won't you?

SOS sun shine and blue skies

What a beautiful Easter Weekend.
I spent yesterday down by the sea enjoying a beautiful day around the harbour, thinking about the storage unit. It's a lovely place to be on a beautiful day, but it's too small a unit and I would not be content for long. If I am going to invest in putting up walls, floors and heating, I need it to be a long tern place to stay.

I sometimes don't know if I am coming or going these days, too many ideas, too many options. I am going to sit tight for a little while and concentrate to finishing the craft projects I have started.

Maybe by the time I have done a few, my head might be clearer. It's been a crazy few years personally and I should be careful about jumping feet first into something new.

One my pinterst page today was this poster,  it's a sign. As in, a sign for me to sit back and wait. I am a great believer in "what for you would go bye you" . I have very little patience but I know it's true.

Have a great weekend, enjoy the weather, your family and friends, maybe a little chocolate .

Vintage finds

Hello lovely reader, thank you for all your lovely comments on my junkin.
Still on the same theme today as I continue to be infected with this hoarding tendencies.

I saw these

Over on a favourite blog of mine. ( docrafts do packets of tiny spools perfect for this project)

http://mysalvagedtreasures.blogspot.co.uk

Just love living my live via these American vintage/ junk/ up cycled sites.

I am waiting for word on a storage unit I asked to rent, but nothing is quiet straight forward.
No 1 unit is a new build in an industrial site off thee main road in this area.
No 2 unit is down by the harbour in a quaint seaside town.

Which one too choose.
No 2 is available right now, building on the new one keeps on putting the completion date back.

Which ever unit I choose it will firstly be for storage. Having too much stuff and businesses that are bursting at the seams means I have no problem making clean fresh space by hiding stuff in storage.

But, my mind also thinks that I could use it for other things in the future.( sometimes I wish the voices would keep their ideas to themselves)

If I am able to use it as a painting workshop that may run classes with all the lovely chalky paints we have in the store.

It could grow arms and legs and offer workshop space to maybe a wood  turner which could work well with someone re selling vintage furniture, even if it was online or maybe open just on a weekend.

I could move funkykits to the unit and free up more space in the Elgin shop. Oh the possibilities! One of my biggest problems in life is getting carried away with my ideas, remembering that what I see on the Internet/ pinterest might be hugely popular and trending, BUT this does not say that the locals would appreciate my crazy ideas?
All I do know is that as long as I watch the pennies, it's a lot of fun and makes me happy.
If I could only find the time and energy to do everything ! Finish anything at all!

I'll keep you informed but one things for sure, I ain't content, always fidgeting to do some else.

Take care
Karen

Best Day Ever

Hello everyone :o)

I've gone all girlie for today's card, using one of my favourite stamps.... yes, I know I say that about them all, but they're all fabulous, aren't they?!

This little lovely is called Best Day Ever... I've used the rubber stamp version, which is currently out of stock, but you can get an instant fix with the digi version HERE.

I had a bit of a colouring disaster with this one - I dropped a blue pen (the one I use for adding little shadows around the images) on the finished image and left a big streak over her face and the top of her dress!  I had to blend it out and then add more colour to cover it up, so she's not looking her best poor love.

Thanks for popping in, hope you have a lovely day :o)

Bad Hare Day ----

Hello and good morning everybody.

Here I am again with my card using the super cute Sugar Nellie ‘Bad Hare Day’ stamp available from Funkykits.  I did originally plan to create an altered wooden shape to showcase her with bits of paper, stamped images, flowers, gems….etc, but I had a few painting issues. Basically I had paint everywhere but on the shape, I obviously have the relationship with paint as I do with glue. Lets just say I had a nightmare!!  I‘ve now realised up-cycling objects might need a little more practice and a lot more play time ---- and possibly better paints.  J  Ah well, I might try it out again for my next project.

Anyhoo, back to this week and after a doing a crafty detour I decided to create an Easter card. I like to use different mediums, so this week I decided to use my Prisma Pencils to colour my image with.

The background scene was made using cut out pieces from my 12 x 12 paper pad, some stickers from the pad and a few dies.
Check out my blog here for full details of all the things I used on my card. I hope you like it and have a lovely Easter --- but watch out and don’t eat too many Easter eggs.
Bigs hugs

Bumble Bee...

Good morning Sugar fans....it's Wednesday and time for my scheduled post.  I will be busy at work when you read this post(hopefully)...that means hopefully the schedule will post and not that I am hopefully at work...lol!!

Now this stamp is called Bumble Bee from the Gorjuss Girls collection at Sugar Nellie.  Now it is out of stock however I know there's lots of you out there that need some inspiration with your old stamps...this one has to be one of my favourites!!  It is such an easy stamp to colour, you can make it as bold or as subtle as you like...anything suits this stamp but she is perfect for paper piecing because there isn't too many itty bitty pieces to cut out.....pop over to the store and see what else is available!!

Now these papers are digi papers from The Sweet Shoppe....they are just the kind of colours that I love.  I cut them out and layered them onto bazill card and then yes you've guessed....I added some doodling!!

The flower has been cut using my brand spanking new die-namics blueprints 14...oh I soooo love it and tied a tiny piece of twine on the button making a little bow.

The message is from Stampin Up and I finished with some pearls in the corner....hope you likey.

Pop back tomorrow for more inspiration from the team!!

SOS - Junkie

Good morning readers, happy Sunday to you all.

Today I confess to being a junkie.

I love junkin so there for I must be a junkie.
Addicted to collecting junk.

I had a day out yesterday for that purpose only, I drove around  lots of villages in our county in the search of some man's junk that could maybe, with a little love and work, be my own treasure.

Funny enough it was my first stop that gave me the biggest hit, after that there was very little.
I would not call the places I visit antique shops, because that infers high price tickets. I would be happier with the prices of a charity shop or a boot sale but as those venues don't usually deal much in my kind of junk, it's the recycling centres, house clearance sales and second hand furniture venues that prove best for me.
Blame pinterest, the west coast of America, with all the sunshine for out door activities, holds many many vintage junk sales. But it's a little to far for me and the luggage allowance on flights is nothing at all. I will have to settle for what I can find locally.

What did I buy. Well here is my haul.

3 coffee tables at £5
Suitcases £5 & £3
All three drawers for £5
And the wicker picnic basket, lined but empty for £5
Your guess that if the sales woman could sell it for the magic number 5 than it was sold.
I also purchased a old hand mixer, I have had a few in my time but nothing works faster than this, forget those ballon whisk!

Cut glass, I have been collecting these for the last few weeks, 50p - 1.75.

Now we wait for the new range of chalky paints to arrive in the store so that we can play.
Up cycling is on the UP! I felt this last year and wanted Annie Sloan paints for the pop up shop but I could not agree to her terms, one full time trained employee in each out let, sorry can't afford extra staff just to sell paint!
In Frankfurt at the trade show there were several companies selling chalk paint, as per everything that becomes fashionable or on trend, others follow. The choice is growing and the price is coming down, I just needed to figure which was best value for money and stock as many pretty colours as I have room for. Making space this week.

Time to hide all these goodies from hubby, it's a blue skies and sunshine kind of day, yesterday was very windy but it's calmer out here this morning. I might open up the caravan and see what other junk I have hidden in there that I have forgotten about.

Take care and have a peaceful Sunday.
Karen

Springtime Saturday

Happy Saturday everybody!!  It's a bit blustery today....or as Winnie the Pooh would say " A gentle spring zephyr"!!

I thought I would share a little springtime inspiration from our some of sweeties, it's amazing how you can interpret these stamps and make them fit almost any theme you like.

The Sugar Bowl's guest designer this month is Sue, Sue has used A Little Bit of Gossip on her springtime card....and doesn't it work well.  Those colours are perfect from spring along with the lovely embellishments she has added!!

The lovely Lis has used Posy Pip from the Sherbet Pips range at Sugar Nellie, and again papers and colours are just perfect!!

Last but definitely not least the lovely Susan has used Maggie with Spring flowers and Maggie is one of the older stamps from Sugar Nellie but we can't forget about them...and look how cool she is paper pieced!!

Why not pop over to the Sugar Bowl to check out the other sweeties cards and enter our challenge this month.  The prize for one lucky winner picked at random is 4 Sugar Neliie stamps and....you gotta be in it to win it!!

Well I suppose I better get a move on...still got my jammies on...oops!!

Star Dust

Good Morning Everyone

Its Pami here and this is my first card for the Sugar Nellie DT!  Karen asked me to join for a 3 month stint and I feel honoured to be here! I hope you like the creations that I will share with you!

For my first card I have decided to use one of favourite Krista Smith images called Star Dust.  We all need a bit of Star Dust don't you think!  She is from the "Simply Sassy" range at Funky Kits.

I teamed her up with some papers from Authentique called Flourish.  I coloured her with copics and have added some glamour dust.  The leaves are made using my Doo Hickey Leaf and Swirl die.  I then finished off with various embellishments including some roses, pearls and gorgeous ribbon.

I hope you like it!  Have a great day!
Love and Hugs

Day Dreamer...

Good morning Sugar fans....happy hump day...yay the middle of the week!!

So this weeks card I wanted to use this super cute stamp called Day Dreamer Leanne Ellis range at Sugar Nellie. I stamped her using memento ink and coloured with copics, building up colour and then shaded with polychromos....I like using my pencils for the finishing touches as I can get a bit finer detail with them as sometimes the pens can bleed too much.

I found this paper pad at the SECC which also had lots of little embellishments to match, so of course needed to buy the lot, it's Curiosity Corner from Dovecraft.

This particular paper had a frame already printed on it so I thought it would be a good idea to make it look like a house from.  So I made the canopy roof type thing with my scallop border and just punched out a few strips....what do you think??

The paper was layered onto bazzill card and then I distressed around the edges.

Pop back tomorrow for more inspiration from the team!!

SOS - Challenge 114

Good morning readers, what a lovely spring day again .

Which just happens to be the theme for the next challenge over on the Sugar Bowl.
Easter or Spring time.

So look out your favourite Sugar Nellie and ink her up.
I have lost count of how many stamps we have one the range but I am sure you will have one or two who fit this theme.
We all love to see you join in the challenges, it's sore of a 'how much do you love our stamps'
When you join in, it's like your putting your hand up and saying YEAH.
In putting in on your blog, not only are you showing your readers that you ❤️SN but most importantly...

     that you have good taste.
There are many great stamp companies out there, I have my addiction to other brands too.

But there are also stamps that I feel can not be called ART. But it takes all sorts to make the world go around, I admit  to judging a crafter by the stamps she uses. As like many other people who choose a DT members, we look for a few things.

Nice blog layout , without clutter, easy to read with followers who are interested in your blog.
Lovely cards, coloured and photographed well with watermarks.
I nice chatty line about what you have used etc
Love to see tutorials or links to the original creator if you have been inspired, good manners are important.
Challenge entries too. These all spread the love of your work and the stamps you choose to use.

Points come off for
non crafting posts.
Loads of flashing adverts for "stuff" including a candy trail.
Pinterest boards with collections of illegal "digi stamps"
Even worse, if you are noticed using these images in your work.

If it's your wish to be on any DT, read these little pointers which are things that I personally think of.
Be careful what you wish for because making cards to a deadline and having to work with art you may not love, is hard work and sometimes puts a pressure on you that you don't really need.

BUT if you are not interested in moving forward into the world of unpaid DT's. You just do your own thing and whatever makes you happy, don't listen to a word I have said you do it for your enjoyment and that's important too.

But for today I have some bunnies feeling the chill, had better go and dress those up.
Have a peace full Sunday.
Take care
Karen
