Sugar Nellie DT Showcase Sunday.

Today I am back to shine the Sugary Spotlight down on another of our new DT members and one of my Sweetie sisters from the Sugar Bowl challenge blog. This lady is very talented and she's a really lovely and totally funny gal who always makes me giggle.

Hi...my name is Pat Frank and I am thrilled to be showcased at Sugar Nellie this week!! Hmmmm...where to start? Well...let's see...I'm proud to be "Gramma Pat" to five gorgeous grandkiddos ranging in age from "almost" 5 to "not quite" 13! I've made it my mission in life to help my grandkids remember always how to LAUGH and PLAY!!! I'm mom to three grown children...all happy and well on their way into middle age! hehehe!! And, last but absolutely not least, I am married to Gil...who is my best friend and the most incredible man I've ever met! He totally "gets" my crafting, cardmaking, and online shopping obsession! I tell ya...am I lucky or what?

 

I recently retired from a successful near 30-year career as a Registered Nurse...specializing in Neonatal Nursing. My recent retirement has given me lots of time to really focus on crafting! And let me just say, I am in heaven!! I began making cards many, many, many years ago when I was invited to a friend's Stampin' Up party (I went for the yummy desserts! hehe!)...but didn't get really serious until early last year when I discovered this whole huge and fabulous and magical world of  stamps and stampers, far exceeding the world of Stampin' Up! 

 

I've never had any formal art training...and am looking forward to taking some drawing classes soon! In the meantime, I am perfectly content coloring with my Copic Sketch Markers...and have recently added Prismacolor pencils to my "tools of the trade". I LOVE making vintage-style cards...and am particularly drawn to stamps and images of children! I have recently discovered something interesting about myself and my crafting style...I don't know how to do "clean and simple"! It's true!! Embellishments are my life! LOL!!

 

I'm thrilled to be a Sugar Bowl DT "Sweetie," and am honored to also design for Sugar Nellie's Design Team! Whoohoo! It just doesn't get better than that!! In addition to cardmaking and papercrafting, I love traveling with my handsome husband...and one of our favorite places to hang out is Barnes & Noble drinking lattes and reading!

Now Pat is the embellishment Queen but she kindly made a gorgeous CAS card to show here today, using the stamp Raven. I adore these colours and those divine papers.

This beautiful festive card is made with one of my most favourite Christmas stamps, Crystal Flakes. 

I love this Baby Boy birth card, using the image Cute and Cuddly ...the use of these pretty pastel papers for the background really makes the image pop.

A Sassy girl for this card - Winking Student. I love this colour combo and that big, squishy bow.

Another fabulous festive card this time with the image Snow Buddies. Embellished perfectly with snowflakes and flowers.

And lastly, I have to show you just one more Christmas card...

Isn't this absolutely gorgeous? The image - Hello Little Robin - is so sweet, and expertly coloured by Pat and her buddies the Copics. Pretty papers and perfect embellishments make this card a real stunner. I was wowed the first time I saw it and I'm still wowed....Pat had better have my name written inside it!

Charlotte and Delia - Fairy Glen



Good morning to all of you:)

It is freezing outside, and it feels like winter is near, but the card I want to show you today is filled with sweetness and summer. I have used the gorgeous image “Charlotte” from Sugar Nellie’s brand new range of stamps “Fairy Glen”.

 I have colored this lovely fairy with Copics, and the violet and grey colors I have used for her clothes, wings and shoes are: V91 – V93 – V95 – V99, and C00 – C1 – C3 – C5. All the papers I have used are from Pion Designs collection “Sagan om våren”, and the lovely border punch is from EK Success. My flowers are a mix of dies from Marianne Design and Magnolia, and I have added some roses, and some tiny buttons in matching colors. The green swirl is a dies from Cherry Lynn.

I have added some glitter to sweet “Charlotte” to make her sparkle a little.

It is great to get a little taste of summer these days, right? But these sweet “Fairy Glen” images look gorgeous on all kinds of cards. Christmas cards you say? No problem. I have a little extra for you today. This cute “Fairy Glen” image “Delia” is not a Christmas stamp…but today she is:)

For this card I have used papers from Maja Design, beautiful laces, some Christmas ribbon, a button, and pines made from a MS punch.

Last thing today is a coloring tip. Many people ask me what Copics I use to get this deep Christmas red. The funny thing is that I don`t use red at all. Here is my “red” combination: E09 – E19 – T6.

Why don`t you give it a try?

Friday time - Tiets time!!

Did you read yesterday that it is only 72 days away from Christmas...oohhhh my gosh, I'm not ready yet!! On my club we have a challenge, to make 4 Christmas cards each month, But when I'm counting how many cards I need, I have to make 8 each month!!!
So here another christmas card from me on this Friday! I've use the stamp Warm Winter Wishes this time.. And when I stamped it, I was looking for winter Desing papers.. but I don't know why, but I couldn't find the right one that fits this cutie stamp. But on my desk, I had the beautifull papers from Bobunny, and so here is my card!!! I hope you don't mind making another Vintage card... You can see with these new Tinkle Bell & Jingle bells stamps you can make all kinds of cards!!
I love those big red roses you can put some little ones all together and it looks like a little bouquet!
I've colored these cuties with my prisma pencils and used stickles for the christmas hat.
I hope you like my card!

Pff ik las gisteren dat het over 72 dagen alweer kerst is.. nou jeetje ik ben nog niet klaar hoor. Op mijn club hebben we de kerstaktie waarbij we elke maand 4 kerstkaarten moeten maken, maar als ik tel hoeveel ik er nodig heb, mag ik wel 8 per maand maken! Dus hier weer een kerstkaartje van mij. Zo lief deze Warm Winter Wishes stempel... Ik kon geen bijpassend winters papier vinden dus heb ik gekozen voor traditionele kerstkleuren. Het papier is van Bo Bunny en tja weer een beetje in vintage stijl.

Heb ze ingekleurd met prisma potloden en de rand van de hoed en pomponnetje met stickles bewerkt.

Ik wens jullie een geweldig weekend toe!

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...

...Toys in ev'ry store

I don't want to frighten you all, but it IS only 72 days to Christmas...and yes, there are toys in every store!
Does Christmas arrive earlier with every passing year or am I getting old? No need for anyone to answer that!

When do you start to make your festive cards? Are you organised and efficient, making a few cards each month to have a nice supply ready to post come the first week of December? Or are you last minute Annie...still trying to make 'just one more' on Christmas Eve?

Whilst wandering around the Sugar Bowl I found these gorgeous festive cards...

This card from Dawn really caught me eye. The colours are so pretty and ideal for the theme and her colouring of the stamp Warm Winter Wishes is perfect.

Andie has used the image Crystal Flakes for her fabulous Christmas card. Andie's colouring is awesome! I love the shading and the depth she achieves. Very sweet 'n' pretty.

This sparkly delight made by Nessy uses the stamp Wish Upon A Star. I love all the glitter and the added stars.
These stamps all come from the Jingle Bells and Tinkle Bells range and are most definitely my favourite Christmas stamps ever!
The final card today I am showing today...

OK, this one isn't a Christmas card but it is divine so I had to sneak it on here too. A really striking card from Lis made with Hello Little Friend.

Yesterday was Let them eat cake  and I wanted to show you some new cakes that you might not want to eat but just admire because they are so beautiful.

The girls over at the CREATIVE CUPCAKE ACADEMY run classes

 at Farncombe Estate venue in Broadway, Worcestershire.

There is not a class I would not take, it would be  a total treat for me and I am sure that one day I will get down there and do this class because I love everything these girls do.

BUT and here's the thing, I would have to fly to Birmingham or Luton and I doubt I could do it in one day, down and back.

 IF you are lucky to live near by, go treat yourself, I am sure that if you made these cakes for Christmas gifts you would be a friend for life.

off to put the kettle on anyone want to join me, I buggsy the cake with the snowflake on top!

Let them eat cake!!

Good Morning Everyone!
I hope you are all well and having a good week so far. It's Jane here today with a card made with one of my favourite new stamps from this month's Fairy Glen release called 'Let them eat cake'. It is my favourite as it features the adorable Delia and a HUGE cake, yum! I have made the cake into a chocolate cake (my favourite!!) and coloured the image using Promarkers and Flexmarkers.

I have used Echo Park papers and some gorgeous gingham paper from Pink Petticoat and layered all the papers and the image onto some gorgeous pink card. I love using bright colours and it can sometimes be hard to know which colours to use together when putting together a card so I thought I would try and explain how I chose the colours I used on my card and to bring my image to life.

My starting point for this card was this gorgeous Echo Park paper. I knew I wanted to use something bright and fun with cakes on and this seemed the perfect choice.

I then looked at the different colours in the paper to choose a coordinating card to mat and layer my papers onto. I chose the darker pink as when I first looked at the patterned paper, this was the colour my eye was drawn to first. I had some gingham in the paler pink in my stash which was lovely and girly so I chose this as my second paper. The reverse of the paper was next as, of course, the yellow picks out the yellow on the cupcakes as it matches perfectly. After I had matted and layered all the pieces, I stitched through with some bright pink to tie in with the plain cardstock.

I choose colours from the backing paper to colour Delia's clothes, the blue matches in with some of the cupcake detail as does the green and purple and I used blossom pink and bright pink to tie in the cardstock and gingham. Delia's hair coordinates with the yellow heart paper. I then added embellishments in coordinating colours. By using colours in the same tones that are in the patterned paper I know they will work together and I am not afraid to use lots of bright colours as I know they will not clash.

I always select my papers and try to figure out a layout before colouring my image as I find this a much easier way rather than colouring and then trying to find paper to match and I find doing it this way really works well for me. I would be really interested to read how you go about putting your cards together, how do you get started on your design? Do you colour your images in first and then make up your cards or do you select your papers and embellishments?
